Tradition holds strong evidence for the need of a Guru

In the Indian traditions, the guru is more than a teacher, in Sanskrit Guru means the one who dispels the darkness and takes towards the light, traditionally a reverential figure to the student, with the guru serving as a counselor, who helps mold values, shares experiential knowledge as muсh as literal knowledge, an exemplar in life, an inspirational source.

In our history, a mentor is considered above God. A mentor is considered to show a correct path to an individual, helps to gain knowledge, and gives unbiased and realistic advice. Mentor encourages an individual to self-introspect and is a person’s personality.

A mentor is also a coach, and they not only provide their mentee with constructive feedback to help them improve but also promote a flexible approach to accepting feedback.

Considering the crucial role of a mentor in one’s life, finding a good mentor is equally important. In this materialistic world, anyone cannot be trusted easily

It’s important for a mentor and mentee to realize that the connection doesn’t always need to be an intense, formal thing.

It’s better to focus on maintaining a professional relationship and learning what you can. Part of finding a mentor means learning how to appropriately follow up, add value to your mentor’s life and career, and be proactive in your own career growth.

These lessons can apply to any worker at any stage of their career. The first step to find a mentor is defining what you want out of your career. One can also look in your own professional circle.

These individuals can be former bosses, former professors or teachers, co-workers in another department, or family friends.

As you look, try to prioritize someone who can give you long-term advice about your industry and has a good idea of your own company and what it takes.


How and When to approach

If you think they can provide valuable advice to you as your career progresses, make sure you think critically about how and when to follow up.

It’s important that we find a mentor who can guide us in life, but if one is unable to find a mentor it doesn’t mean that you don’t end up having one. You should look for a mentor with utter patience.

After all, there are not plenty of people who have become successful without a formal mentorship. But everybody has somebody to learn from whether through lessons or informal interactions. Be eager to learn, today or tomorrow but please make sure you find a good mentor.
